Books Provide a Key to a Better Future
African children grow up speaking their native language, but begin to study their national language in school. The African Library Project works in countries where English is the national language.

The African Library Project is looking for YOU to help create a library in a rural African community with little access to books.

How can you help? By becoming a Book Drive Organizer. As a Book Drive Organizer, you could work with a school, religious organization, company, youth club or your family to collect, sort, pack and ship 1000 gently used children's books and raise $500 to ship the books to Africa.

Your book drive would be matched with a school or community in Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Sierra Leone, or Swaziland that has requested books for a library and agreed to provide a place for the library and librarians to run it. Generally books ranging from preschool through 8th grade reading level are requested.

Since 2005, the African Library Project has worked with volunteers in the U.S. and Canada to collect 2,365,867 books and start 2,350 libraries. Some of our Book Drive Organizers have had so much fun they want to do more than one book drive.

Book drives usually last 6-8 weeks. You can find guidelines and resources for book drive on our website. Just copy and past this link:
