Volunteer Opportunity:
Did you know there are many adults in our community who have trouble reading and writing? Become an adult basic literacy tutor with the Literacy Council to make a difference in the life of an individual.
Our organization provides free reading and writing assistance for adults who speak English fluently but have trouble reading and writing. We depend solely on volunteers in the community.
No experience teaching is required. The three most important requirements include:
- Speak, read, and write English well
- 18 years of age or older
- Commit to tutoring a 1.5-hour class twice a week for four months (40 hours of class total)
We provide:
- Online, self-paced training
- Tutoring support, materials, and classroom space
Use your skills and give the gift of literacy. We will match you up with a student depending on your available times to tutor. Tutor online through video, or take our training so you are prepared to tutor in person in the future. We are adjusting our operations due to COVID-19, but are determined to serve adult learners in our community during this time.
