Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity to match your passion with your purpose? If you are passionate about design and love children, Special Spaces may be the answer you have been looking for.

Special Spaces creates dream bedroom makeovers for children with a life-threatening illness. Our goal, now and in the future, is to create safe places where they can escape the challenges of their illnesses. Each room is inspired by the child's imagination. Whether it's an outer space theme, a sports theme or a princess's castle, our skilled team of contractors, designers, and volunteers transform the room into a place where the child can just be a kid and can heal, recover and find joy. And we do this all in a day!

Special Spaces is a national 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 2004 in Knoxville Tennessee. We now have 23 chapters in 14 states and in 2018, we proudly celebrated our 1000th dream room. Our continued growth means we need more volunteers. If you are ready to change children’s lives - and in the process change your life too - you might be just what we are looking for.

Special Spaces needs volunteer Associate Directors in your area. Each associate director meets and interviews the child, and then designs the child's dream bedroom. In addition, they organize and run "makeover day" with a team of volunteers and get to celebrate the reveal at the end of the day with the child and their family. Special Spaces will train you to create the child's dream room makeover and will guide you on how to change their lives in just one day. Design skills needed (degree not required) and a desire and willingness to make a difference in the lives of children and volunteers.
