Providing residential and day services to individuals with Developmental Disabilities for almost 20 years, Farmsteads of New England, Inc. is a well-established service organization in NH. While the name or our non-profit does not sound consistent with what we do, the important thing is our mission. We are currently a $3M+ corporation with almost 100 staff and growing as fast as our hiring and fundraising efforts allow. We currently serve 38 individuals (21 residential and 17 day) and that number keeps growing with a waiting list of individuals wanting residential and day services.

We opened our second facility in Epping, NH 18 months ago and we are preparing to construct residential buildings at that location. When these new residence open, we will add residential facilities for an additional 28 individuals which we will result in us almost doubling the number of staff employees. We also need to grow our support for our staff to be able to properly support this increase. Please see our website for more details on our facilities, operations and the individuals we serve.

We are looking to grow and there are a couple of ways you can help

  1. We want to increase our Board of Directors by 4 people
    • We are a working Board and a board member has more of a time commitment than a support volunteer.
  2. You can serve on our Advisory Group.
    • This requires professional expertise in areas like construction, banking, investment, contract writing and government advocacy
    • These folks would probably meet quarterly to provide guidance in areas where the board is lacking a member with this expertise
  3. You can help as a Committee support volunteer
    • You would assist our Committees in doing strategic work to insure we are functioning at a high level.
  4. You can be a special event volunteer
    • We have 3 fundraising events; golf tournament, end of summer festival and fall auction.
    • The 1 st and 3 rd event are well established and very successful raising a large amount of money for.
    • We have a group of volunteers but we can use more.

The areas we are looking for help are

  • HR support and staff recruitment
  • IT professional(s) for system administration and equipment life cycle management
  • Farming experience to assist our farm manager at both locations
  • Building and Property Management experience to assess the state of our buildings and grounds, produce a proactive maintenance plan and assist with quotes for repairs
  • Fundraising experience using Stewardship and Cultivation of our donor base
  • Fundraising event organization and management or just a helper
  • Banking and Investment (preferably as a Board Member or on the Advisory Group)
  • Finance and accounting

Mission Statement

Farmsteads of New England, Inc. (FNE) is dedicated to empowering individuals who have autism, developmental disabilities and others with varying abilities to pursue their chosen path to live a meaningful and satisfying life by providing transitional and long-term supports and services in a rural environment that fosters growth, interdependence and self-confidence

Description

FNE currently provides services in 2 locations; Hillsborough, NH and our newest facility Epping, NH. The Hillsborough location provides residential and day services while Epping currently provides only day services. We are in the planning stages for our residential units in Epping. We provide services and supports to 38 individuals and employ 80 staff. The individuals we provide services to have needs that range from those who require 24x7 support to those who only require support as a group. We are currently not a full capacity in our day program in Epping due to lack of staff. Our clients (called our farmers), spend their day in a home style atmosphere at the farm and participate in work, community and recreational activities. They show for their groceries, produce all their own meals and clean the farmhouse. Our farmers work the garden and care for the animals at the farm. The produce they grow is sold from an onsite farm stand as well as to area businesses and the elderly. In Hillsborough we have a mobile farm stand that allows our farmers, with their coaches, to bring the produce, eggs and other items to nursing and assisted living homes to allow the residence to purchase fresh items without having to leave their homes. Our fundraising helps to support the upkeep of the farming environment and enhance the daily life and recreational activities of our farmers. Our percentage of proceeds from fundraising that go directly to supporting our farmers is above 90%. While we target for 100%, unexpected expenses require use of funds from fundraising.
