About Us:

Project Ropa is a free mobile hygiene service that brings a curated selection of new and gently used high-quality men's and women's clothing, shoes and accessories, along with personal hygiene products and access to showers directly to people experiencing homelessness in Downtown Los Angeles, Echo Park and Venice each week.

Access to clean clothing is essential to the overall well-being of a person and can be the key to opening doors to employment and housing. Most homeless people literally have only the clothes on their backs.

We believe everyone deserves to be treated with respect. How you look affects how you feel about yourself and how others treat you. No one should have to wear dirty clothes or clothes that are ill-fitting.

In light of the rapidly developing COVID-19 pandemic, the need for our Mobile Hygiene Service is more vital than ever. Hygiene services can help reduce the spread of the virus to our homeless neighbors and community.

Volunteer Duties:
- Greeting our clients and helping distribute hygiene and clothing items

Things to Know:

- This is an outdoor rain or shine program and you should be comfortable working in all weather conditions
- Must be prepared to deal with challenging circumstances that can include the mental health and personal hygiene of our clients
- PPE provided (masks, gloves, face shield, cleaning and hygiene supplies)
- We tentatively are planning on resuming services on 5/18

Time Commitment:

We are looking for 1-2 volunteers to assist us with our Mobile Hygiene Service operations. The hours of service are from 8:30am-12pm on Fridays in Downtown Los Angeles, Tuesdays in Echo Park and Thursdays in Venice.

We are looking for individuals who are available for either the full shift or at least for a two hour time period. This position will be the primary contact with all of the people we serve.

About Project Ropa

Location:

13970 Van Ness Avenue, Gardena, CA 90249, US

Mission Statement

The mission of Project Ropa is to reduce waste and restore dignity to those in need by providing clothing and hygiene essentials.

Description

An Overview: Who We Are

Project Ropa, is a Los Angeles-based non-profit and certified social enterprise, paving the way towards a more compassionate, sustainable world. At its core, Project Ropa is a mobile clothing closet delivering premium, hand-selected apparel and shoes to people in need. We work to give a second life to items originally destined for landfills. In doing so, Project Ropa empowers lives, providing individuals with hygiene essentials and high-quality clothing and shoes that can open doors to future opportunities.

Our Approach: The Power of Love

Project Ropa's approach to serving our clients is deeply rooted in the concept of the intrinsic value and unlimited potential of their lives. Instead of seeing people as problems to be solved, Project Ropa views each individual as a person with unique aspirations and contributions. Many of the individuals served by Project Ropa are working to secure employment, improve their health, and maintain stable housing. Project Ropa is there to support them at every step of their journey.

Each client is welcomed to shop from our mobile clothing closet and offered one-to-one service. Project Ropa's team members work diligently to help clients find clothing they'll be proud to wear - clean, stylish, and hand-picked. This level of personalized care may require time and attention, but it is where the real impact happens. It's care that restores hope, and the clients deeply appreciate it.
