Ascend of Life Doula Free Information Session - 7/22/19 11am- 12 pm
Just as Doulas exist to welcome people into life through birth, end of life Doulas accompany the dying and their families during the final stages of life. Doulas provides support, education, resources and companionship to those who are entering their journey into death. Volunteers who spend their time in this role need to understand how to best support the dying in their families.
Ascend Hospice has partnered with Quality of Life Care and their unique end-of-life Doula training to provide comprehensive holistic training to volunteers willing to take on an end of life Doula role. Our program helps provide the tools necessary to teach the Doula how to provide support and guidance to people during their end of life journey.
At this 1 hour information session you will learn about the requirements to become an end-of-life Doula and you will have the opportunity to ask questions about the requirements listed below.
Requirements:
- Complete companion volunteer application/training
- 8 hour Doula training
- Completion of self learning lessons
- Bi-annual education presentations
- Monthly Doula mentorship calls/topics
- Ongoing one on one mentorship with the volunteer coordinator
- Complete a minimum of 100 hours sitting bedside and one year commitment to receive your End of Life Doula certificate.

Vet to Vet Volunteers.
Governor Phil Murphy signed a new executive order requiring all healthcare workers to be vaccinated and boosted. As a result, all volunteers must received their booster dose by February 28th. Volunteers are required to be compliant with Ascend Hospice policies, practices and facility requirements for infection control. We provide a Quantiferon blood test (TB screening), a MMR titer (measles, mumps & rubella immunity), background check and personal protective equipment, plus volunteer training!
