ORGANIZATION: Catholic Charities of Boston

Engagement and Operations Associate - AmeriCorps VISTA Opportunity at Catholic Charities of Boston (Listing ID#895050)-Position can start as early as November 15, 2021

The Catholic Charitable Bureau of the Archdiocese of Boston, Inc. (CCAB) has a long history of providing comprehensive family strengthening programs and services using volunteers for almost all of its programs. As one of the largest providers of social services in Massachusetts, CCAB offers nearly 75 programs and services in 23 locations around Eastern Massachusetts. Our goal is to create an operations manual model that documents program specific operations that include service delivery, outreach to and current partnership activities, and recruiting/training volunteers to increase capacity of each program in one division of the agency. Programs include basic needs, shelters, education and job training, youth services, refugee and immigration services and family services. The model will be used on a subset of programs prior to agency-wide roll out. In order to increase capacity, expanding the volunteer services program in the context of the operations manual is another goal. Working together with a division deputy director and volunteer services staff, the VISTA will have the opportunity to engage with program staff, learn about the wide array of services CCAB provides throughout the Greater Boston area, identify opportunities to build relationships with donors, partners and volunteers and to develop a robust volunteer training curriculum that will be used to recruit and train volunteers. CCAB would like to raise public awareness of the work it does for strengthening families and give staff and volunteers the information and tools they need to provide clients with wrap-around services to help them succeed.

Member Duties: The VISTA will be responsible for a pilot project with an objective of agency-wide implementation that will increase the agency’s capacity to deliver family strengthening services. The VISTA will create program specific operations manuals that document a subset of agency programs for the pilot phase. This includes: manuals to document program procedures/information, relationships/partnerships, and volunteer opportunities, as well as information and tools to direct staff and volunteer onboarding and training. Manuals will serve to increase communication/knowledge among staff/volunteers of comprehensive wrap-around services to increase capacity to serve clients. The VISTA will develop and execute outreach and recruitment plan for volunteer services. The VISTA will develop a volunteer training curriculum that the VISTA will use to train staff and volunteers to strengthen the volunteer services program and help staff deliver services to clients more effectively.

Program Benefits: Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend , Living Allowance, Relocation Allowance, Childcare assistance if eligible, Training, Health Coverage* . *For details about AmeriCorps VISTA healthcare benefits, please visit http://www.vistacampus.gov/healthcare

Description

For more than 100 years, Catholic Charities has continued its mission of building a just and compassionate society rooted in the dignity of all people.

As one of the largest providers of social services in Massachusetts, Catholic Charities offers approximately 90 programs and services in 23 locations from Lawrence to Brockton and throughout to Boston. More than 185,000 people are helped each year regardless of faith.

Our programs and services are provided in four major areas:

  • Catholic Charities provides a variety of support services for children and families in order to strengthen and preserve families and provide children and youth with the opportunities they deserve.
  • Adult Education (ESOL) and workforce development programs prepare adult learners to take advantage of better employment opportunities to support their families
  • With a variety of multicultural and multilingual services for immigrants and refugees, Catholic Charities is working to help these populations adjust to their new surroundings and become active participants in their communities.
