Mission Statement

Top Box Foods is a non-profit organization with a simple purpose: to offer fresh, healthy, high-quality foods at affordable prices particularly to folks living in Chicago's underserved neighborhoods. We partner with local churches, community organizations, public housing, senior centers, and Chicago Public Schools to offer their constituents healthy food at an average of 40% off the retail price.

Description

Top Box Foods is a non-profit food retailer that helps families buy more of the quality, nutritious groceries they need, at prices much less than traditional retail, through a network of churches and community organizations. We buy high quality, nutritious groceries from distributors and local suppliers, build lifestyle-oriented boxes of weekly meals and sell and distribute them well below retail pricing through community and church organizations to their members and families. Member churches and community organizations benefit directly from charitable financial support enabled by their Top Box sales, expanding the range of services and support they provide to their members.

By building a market-based, transaction-oriented and self-sustaining non-profit retail business, Top Box Foods will deliver nutritious and affordable food to families in their local communities and directly address the widespread societal issues of hunger, malnutrition and related health problems, driven by inadequate access to quality, nutritional food options, otherwise known as food deserts and food swamps.
