We are seeking volunteers to help support a family-friendly event for parents who have graduated the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) program over the past 20 years. Five years ago, NFP created an alumni network called Raising Strong, as an opportunity for parents to stay connected and continue their parenting journey together. For the first-time as an alumni group, we will come together as a collective to celebrate NFP and continue the legacy of raising strong children for a better community.

To make this event run smooth and be successful, we are seeking volunteers who will help with set-up/registration, child care, and event breakdown. If you are interested in volunteering your time for a Saturday, June 17th event, we'll need support with all aspects of program support; we'll have late morning and afternoon shifts based on your availability. As a thank you, volunteers will enjoy lunch on us and a volunteer t-shirt!

Please see detailed information below:

11am - 1pm, Set-Up/ Registration: Set up will begin at 11am which will include decorating the gym, arranging tables and chairs, helping vendors. Registration will also take place which will assist families in checking-in and getting their goodie bags. Some volunteers may also be assisting with directing families to the event at the start of the celebration, passing out flyers to guests, answering logistical questions (directions), keeping track of the number of people who enter the facility, making sure attendees sign the sign-in sheet, etc.

1 - 3pm, Childcare: As this is a family-friendly event. Childcare will be offered for babies up to 10 years old. Duties include supervising children playing in the play area, entertaining with books and toys.

3 - 4pm, Breakdown: Help with taking down decorations and returning gym back to its original state.

Mission Statement

The mission of Friends of New York City Nurse-Family Partnership is to improve the lives of mothers and babies by supporting the New York City Nurse-Family Partnership program (NYC NFP) through financial assistance to enable mothers’ self-sufficiency, increase social and community connections, and provide professional development for nurses. Our vision is to level the playing field for NYC children by providing mothers with the resources to help their families thrive.

Description

About Friends: At Friends, we believe we can improve the world for mothers and children, helping two generations at a time. We do that by strengthening New York City Nurse-Family Partnership (NYC NFP), through financial support that expands services and programming for new mothers and nurses. The NYC NFP operates the nationally acclaimed nurse home visiting model across the 5 boroughs that empowers first-time mothers to become the best mothers they can be. The core program is supported by government grants, but additional resources are needed. We work side by side with the NYC NFP staff to bring extra assistance to moms in their program.

The Learn, Eat, and Play (LEAP) program connects NYC NFP moms with one another to learn, socialize, let their babies play, and engage in interesting talks focused on maternal and child wellbeing. Virtual LEAP sessions are regularly offered biweekly and are led or co-led by Friends staff, community members, or consultants. In 2023, we plan to reintroduce in-person programming. Our most popular sessions are: baby sign language, prenatal yoga, sound healing/minority mental health, mommy & me 30 minute meals.
