oin Special Olympics Illinois Region K in hosting our 2019 District Bocce Competition at the First Christian Church in Herrin IL. This will be a fun day where volunteers will get to interact with athletes as they compete in bocce. The district bocce tournament will consist of athletes and unified partners from Region K competing in singles, doubles, and team with all Gold Medal Winners advancing to the 2020 Summer Games at Illinois State University. A wide variety of volunteers are needed to help on the courts (Score Keeper, Timer, Court Assistants), serve lunch, and help with set up and clean up.

At Special Olympics Illinois, we all work together as a team to make a great competition experience for our Athletes! We will have key volunteers on-site to give you training and support! Join us in transforming the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities right here in Southern Illinois.

BOCCE VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION

Court Supervisor

The Court Supervisor officiates the play of the game and recording athlete scores. Verify that appropriate athletes have reported to your court. (NO PLAYER/ATHLETE SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED.) Clarify rules to athletes at the start of each game. Encourage athletes to do their best. Responsible for keeping time of all matches.

Scorekeeper

Scorekeepers will record points after each round as well as assist in telling athlete when it is his and her turn to throw.

Line Judge

Stationed at either end of the court. Determine line violations (foul line on each end and pallina delivery. Assist Head Official in determining fair throws. Help with ball retrieval and sorting between frames.

Measurers

Measurers will have a tape measure and determine after athletes throw who will throw next as well as who scores points at the end of the round.

Division Escorts

Assist athletes to designated court from staging. Assist athletes (if needed) from one of the court to the other. Assist athletes from court to awards (if needed)

Hospitality Tent

Lunch distribution volunteers will box up lunches for the teams at the event and then handout lunches to other volunteers attending the event.

Photographer

Using your camera or ours (memory card provided) take pictures of all aspects of the event. This includes Athletes, Awards, Sponsor Banners, etc. At the conclusion of the event turn memory card back over to SOILL Staff or Key Volunteers.
