Who we are:
Established in 1978, Villa Cathay is one of the first culturally focused senior care homes in Vancouver. Our founders saw the gap between the number of Chinese seniors that needed care and the availability of care beds for these seniors; thus, they took the initiative to purchase land and open a senior care home, Villa Cathay. Over the years, we have provided care to over 1600 seniors, with love, respect and dignity, and Villa Cathay became their home.
Villa Cathay is a non-profit organization.
Our Needs:
- We are looking for individuals who are able visit and have conversations with our seniors in Cantonese and English.
- Some residents want to learn conversational English to communicate with their family.
Your Skills & Experience:
- Fluent in Cantonese and/or Mandarin as well as in English.
- You are comfortable working with seniors who may sometimes be impatient or non-responsive.
- Prior experience working with seniors is an asset - but a willingness to learn is just as important.
Your Commitment:
- This role has flexible hours.
- We will do our best to accommodate your schedule.
You will learn:
- You will expand your Cantonese vocabulary.
- You will learn more about proper ways to communicate and care for seniors.
- There will be opportunities to practice your teaching skills.
