**THIS IS AN ONGOING POSITION, MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR A MINIMUM OF THREE MONTHS OR MORE. **

POSITION TITLE: Food Pantry Volunteer

PURPOSE/GOAL OF POSITION: To support the Oceanside Salvation Army in sorting food, preparing food boxes, and assisting at the distribution desk. Depending on the day and number of help, volunteers might be assigned to help at the desk with distributions or help sort and bag food.

Qualifications:

  1. Must have excellent customer service skills. Must be compassionate while working with homeless and low-income individuals.
  2. Strong attention to detail.
  3. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds repetitively.
  4. Bilingual (English and Spanish) is a plus.

Duties:

  1. Sort and pack perishable and non-perishable items in the food pantry. Discard expired food.
  2. Assist in distributing food boxes, clothing, hygiene packs, and pet supplies according to clients needs at the front desk.
  3. Data entry.
  4. Disassemble boxes and discard them in recycling bin.
  5. Assist in cleaning up and stocking pantry for the next service day.
  6. Other miscellaneous administrative and cleaning duties as needed.

Shifts:

  1. One 4 hour shift per week required
  2. Fridays
  3. 8:30 am to 12:30 pm
