Up to 3,000 children live in the Tenderloin, where the median income is just $31,000 (The "middle-class" income range in San Francisco starts at $64,177.) As the Tenderloin's neighborhood library, the Main Library would like to make sure these kids have access to toys, so we're going to start lending them!
Beginning in August or September 2019, a selection of toys will be available for check-out. When the toys are returned, they will need a quick clean & polish before before going out to the next child.
That's where we need volunteers! If you have a couple hours a week to help us keep the toys looking new and appealing, we'd welcome your help.
This is a pilot program, so we may try different cleaning techniques as we see the condition toys are returned in, and we may ask you to help with inventorying multiple-piece items (blocks, puzzles) so we can work out how often we'll need to order replacements.
We'd like to set up teams of 2-4 people 2-3 times a week, so we're looking for about a dozen volunteers total to help out.
If you're interested, please email volunteer@sfpl.org and we'll contact you when we have firmer dates for the program's launch.
