ORGANIZATION: Project Ropa

  • 13 people are interested

About Us:

Project Ropa is the only nonprofit organization of its kind in Los Angeles: our mission is to restore dignity, rekindle optimism and empower lives by bringing clean clothing and hygiene kits directly to our homeless neighbors.

Our retrofitted van, functioning as a mobile walk-in closet, carries hope as well as a full selection of new and gently used high-quality men's and women's clothing, shoes and accessories, along with hygiene kits directly to people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles each week.

To further our mission and help break the cycle of homelessness, we provide transitional employment opportunities to people with barriers to employment, including formerly homeless and previously incarcerated individuals.

Access to clean clothing is essential to the overall well-being of a person and can be the key to opening doors to employment and housing. Many unhoused people literally have only the clothes on their backs.

We believe everyone deserves to be treated with respect. How you look affects how you feel about yourself and how others treat you. No one should have to wear dirty clothes or clothes that are ill-fitting.

Volunteer Duties:

We are looking for someone to help us with outreach research and community engagement. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, well-organized and a creative thinker.

Duties:

  • Help research potential new partners and community champions for our organization.
  • Write and communicate well, clearly and with compelling voice aligned to the organizational mission and brand.

To learn more visit our website: www.projectropa.org

Ideally we would like someone who can commit to helping us at least 2 hours a week.

This work can be done remotely.

About Project Ropa

Location:

Mission Statement

The mission of Project Ropa is to reduce waste and restore dignity to those in need by providing clothing and hygiene essentials.

Description

An Overview: Who We Are

Project Ropa, is a Los Angeles-based non-profit and certified social enterprise, paving the way towards a more compassionate, sustainable world. At its core, Project Ropa is a mobile clothing closet delivering premium, hand-selected apparel and shoes to people in need. We work to give a second life to items originally destined for landfills. In doing so, Project Ropa empowers lives, providing individuals with hygiene essentials and high-quality clothing and shoes that can open doors to future opportunities.

Our Approach: The Power of Love

Project Ropa's approach to serving our clients is deeply rooted in the concept of the intrinsic value and unlimited potential of their lives. Instead of seeing people as problems to be solved, Project Ropa views each individual as a person with unique aspirations and contributions. Many of the individuals served by Project Ropa are working to secure employment, improve their health, and maintain stable housing. Project Ropa is there to support them at every step of their journey.

Each client is welcomed to shop from our mobile clothing closet and offered one-to-one service. Project Ropa's team members work diligently to help clients find clothing they'll be proud to wear - clean, stylish, and hand-picked. This level of personalized care may require time and attention, but it is where the real impact happens. It's care that restores hope, and the clients deeply appreciate it.
