Come volunteer your skills and expertise in an environment where they are sorely needed! Are you a human resource professional with an eye for what makes a good resume? Would your children credit you with teaching them basic financial literacy? Do you have a knack for explaining computer programs to your parents or friends?

Whatever you have to offer, we want to hear from you! You will have an opportunity to share your talent or hobby with people in need of community and bring joy to their lives. What we are looking for is people who want to give something back to their community by using their unique talents and energy to enrich the lives of our guests through activities provided during evening hours.

The Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter is a low barrier, emergency shelter for people experiencing homelessness in the Falls Church/Seven Corners/Bailey’s Crossroads area of Fairfax County. Currently, we are looking for volunteers to lead various life skills classes for our guests. The subject matter for these classes will depend on what you bring to the table. We are casting a wide net and hoping to find unique, caring, and patient individuals with a mind to give back to their community. Working with the Volunteer Coordinator, lessons can be developed, tested, and improved upon with feedback.

Examples of classes could include:

  • Financial literacy
  • Stress reduction
  • Digital/computer literacy
  • Employment counseling (job search techniques, resume writing, interview prep)
  • Healthy eating/nutrition

Volunteers are an important part of the New Hope Housing family. As an organization initially founded and run by volunteers, we consider them to be the lifeblood and heritage. They come from many different backgrounds and cultures and each person brings energy that allows us to expand the programming and services we offer.
