Blocks to Bricks is in need of weekend volunteers to answer guest questions throughout the museum and in the lobby as guests enter. In addition to this, volunteers will facilitate interactive activities for guests within the museum exhibits.

Each volunteer will be scheduled for a shift, the coordinator will schedule shifts based on individual availability and museum needs.

Mission Statement

Blocks to Bricks is organized with the purpose of educating visitors of all ages about art, design, creativity, architecture, construction and engineering of 3-dimensional materials. As a museum, Blocks to Bricks works to provide exhibits, displays and original artwork showcasing the evolutionary development and uses of construction and design "toys". Blocks to Bricks aims to "construct imagination" by providing an attraction to entertain, inform and further inspire the creators, designers and innovators of tomorrow.

Description

Blocks to Bricks is a new museum experience celebrating the history of 3-D building "toys" at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, IL. Blocks to Bricks aims to "construct imagination" by providing an attraction to entertain, inform and further inspire the creators, designers and innovators of tomorrow. Blocks to Bricks Museum Corp is a registered 501(c)(3) not for profit.

At Blocks to Bricks visitors will view the evolutionary development of construction toys while experiencing and interacting with the principles and elements of design that are behind their creation.

The Museum features over 3,000 artifacts in 13 zones following the creative development of mediums used in the design of construction toys including stone, wood, paper, metal and plastic. The 12,500 square foot walk though experience will include artifacts from well-loved and lesser known brands including LEGO(r), Erector Sets(r), Lincoln Logs(r), Anchor Stone, Kiddicraft and Kenner.

Visitors will have the chance to learn about the process of how these types of toys and models are made, view production of custom 2x4 bricks with the onsite injection molder, purchase a brick souvenir, view artists at work in the model shop and even try hands on activities with featured mediums.

Among items on display at Blocks to Bricks will be one of a kind pieces by artists in the mediums showcased throughout the experience.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 16
  • 2-4 hour shifts at a time, up to 3 days weekly.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for duration of shift. Under 16 may volunteer with an accompanying adult.
