Legal Support volunteers assist our Legal Advocates, who work in conjunction with the District Attorney’s Office and Law Enforcement Victim Advocates, to support adult victims involved in the criminal justice and civil court systems by providing legal information and referrals.
The legal system can be a long and confusing process and our Legal Advocates are there to provide emotional support as clients navigate the civil and criminal court systems. Duties of our legal support volunteers include, but may not be limited to:
- Accompanying a client to court or other legal appointments
- Assisting our legal staff with research
This position would be wonderful for volunteers who want to learn more about the court and judicial systems and the steps many victims have to take to ensure their safety and autonomy in the future.
We do ask that legal support volunteers be flexible with their time as sometimes court orders are given with a short time limit (24 hours). We will work with you to make sure you receive the necessary training to ensure you are comfortable and confident within your position.
Our next volunteer orientation will be held on August 27th!
