Mission Statement

The mission of Y KNOT is to stimulate knowledge, nurture ideas, create opportunities, and teach lifelong lessons by building positive, productive, and dependable relationships with youth through mentorship.

Description

Y KNOT is being formed to create an avenue for at-risk youth to find help and support. The program will form partnerships with local schools, the juvenile court system, faith-based organizations, and other community organizations. Y KNOT will connect a caring adult volunteer with a referred youth. Y KNOT will structure four unique mentoring programs:

  • Cover Girl Diva: Cover Girl Diva offers girls an opportunity to work on attitude, poise, and self-esteem while strengthening self-perception.

  • Like My Swag: Like My Swag enhances young men’s self-perception while showing them the true meaning of being Sealed with a Gift (SWAG).

  • Turn Around: Turn Around focuses on youth who are chronically in trouble in the classroom. The goal of this program is to rekindle the youth’s commitment to learning and being successful in the classroom.

  • Changing Faces: Changing Faces engages youth who are involved in the juvenile court system. The mentoring relationship is utilized to establish a program of change in the young person’s life.
