BACKGROUND:
Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. Domestically, our 24 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF QUARTERLY SALES TAX WORK: This is an opportunity to work one-on-one with IRC’s Spice Kitchen entrepreneurs to complete and submit their quarterly sales tax.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Follow quarterly sales tax "Packaged Service" to complete the steps to filing sales tax online with an entrepreneur. Offer direct, thorough explanations of each step to the entrepreneur and allow time for questions. The end goal is to empower entrepreneurs to complete sales taxes on their own.

REQUIREMENTS: All IRC volunteers must clear a HireRight background check, for which we ask for a donation of $45 to cover the cost.

  • Competent in high school level math.
  • Proficient using a computer and navigating X site.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and engage with clients from around the world.
  • Enjoy working in a diverse ethnic and socio-economic environment.

Mission Statement

The International Rescue Committee serves refugees and communities victimized by oppression or violent conflict worldwide. Founded in 1933, the IRC is committed to freedom, human dignity, and self-reliance. This commitment is expressed in emergency relief, protection of human rights, post-conflict development, resettlement assistance, and advocacy.

Description

Each year, thousands of refugees are invited by the U.S. government to seek safety and freedom. Forced to flee conflict or persecution, many refugees have survived against incredible odds. Refugees step off the plane with next to nothing but their dignity, hope, and determination. In Salt Lake City, the IRC helps approximately 500 refugees each year to rebuild their lives.
