Ascend Hospice is looking for Volunteers to be trained to become an AscEND of Life Doula.
As a nonmedical End of Life Doula you will provide Companionship, Support, Presence, and Deep Listening for the patient and family in these final hours. You will sit at bedside, hold a hand, wipe the brow with a cool cloth, talk with the patient and family, read a favorite poem, help the family engage with the patient and listen to family stories. Your presence will have a stabilizing effect.
Please note to become an End of Life Doula you must become a companion volunteer before you are eligible for the Doula training. Once ready for the Doula Training you will commit to attending an 8 hour workshop, online training, and monthly mentoring calls during your training period. Once trained we ask for a minimum commitment of 2 hours a month.
Please note references, background checks, and some medical clearance is needed to become a volunteer.
Due to the time and training involved in this position we ask that the volunteer commits to volunteer for a year. Please note this would NOT be good for a student. Must be 21+ to become a Doula.
