Northwest Harvest is currently seeking volunteers to help out at our SODO Community Market!

The market offers a grocery store shopping experience with an emphasis on customer service, hospitality and community connection. We're recruiting volunteers for the following roles:

Market: greet and check-in guests when they arrive at the market, keep displays stocked with product, assist guests as needed and man the check-out station.

Back-of-house: Repack staples for distribution, sort donations, set-up for the following day & other tasks as needed.

Sandwich Brigade: Assist with making approximately 1200 fresh sandwiches for distribution in the market. Please note that volunteering on the Sandwich Brigade involves working with and around peanut butter.

The volunteer shift schedule is as follows:

Mondays

8:00am-10:00am (Sandwich Brigade)

10:00am-1:00pm (back-of-house)

1:15pm-4:30pm (market/back of house afternoon)

4:15pm-7:30pm (market/back of house evening)

Tuesdays

1:00pm-3:00pm (back-of-house)

2:00pm-4:00pm (Sandwich Brigade)

Wednesdays

7:45am-11:00am (market/back of house morning)

10:45am-2:00pm (market/back of house midday)

2:00pm-4:00pm (back-of- house)

Thursdays

9:00am-12:00pm (set-up, back-of-house)

9:00am-11:00am (Sandwich Brigade)

Fridays

7:45am-11:00pm (market/back of house morning)

10:45am-2:00pm (market/back of house midday)

Groups: Up to 6 -8 volunteers.

ORIENTATIONS

We ask all volunteers to attend an orientation with us prior to their first shift and this must be scheduled in advance. Upcoming orientations are:

  • Tuesday, October 15, 10am-11am
  • Thursday, November 7, 2pm-3pm
  • Tuesday, November 19, 10am-11am
  • Thursday, December 5, 2pm-3pm
  • Thursday, December 17, 10am-11am

Description

Northwest Harvest collects and distributes food to more than 375 independent food banks, hot meal programs, and high need schools across Washington State without proof of need. We provide over 2 million meals every month to individuals and families in need. We also run one food bank of our own, the Cherry Street Food Bank in Seattle.

Northwest Harvest is unable to provide court-related community service.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 9
  • Orientation or Training
  • We ask all volunteers to make a three month commitment to us, with a minimum of two shifts per month.
  • The minimum age for volunteering is 9 years of age. Youth between 9-15 years must have an parent or adult guardian volunteer alongside them. Youth between 16-17 years of age may volunteer on their own with a permission form that we provide,
