Bedside Hospice Volunteers Needed

ORGANIZATION: Brookdale Hospice

One goal at Brookdale Hospice is to ensure no one dies alone. A hospice Vigil Volunteer is one of Brookdale's most special opportunities. Vigil Volunteers sit bedside with patients during their last hours of life. Support may involve prayer (reading from the Bible or other material that is comforting for patient), providing respite to family (allowing them to step away and eat a meal/take a break), or simply being present, providing comfort and peace of mind to all that the patient is not alone. Our Vigil Volunteer program is more of an "on-call" opportunity; vigil support is based upon request of patient's family or caregiving team. Scheduling of vigil takes into consideration the volunteer's location, comfort level, and availability. Applicants must attend an orientation to learn about the philosophy of hospice, the role of a Vigil Volunteer, and skills related to caring for and communicating with hospice patients and their families. Emphasis is on providing comfort during the dying process. Reliable transportation is a must.

If you have the willingness & compassion to help, please join our team! I look forward to hearing from you! Please email: Lynn at ccarroll@brookdale.com or call 216-538-8815

We have opportunities available for Westside Suburbs, Eastern Suburbs and Southern Region including Akron, Canton and Wooster.

Mission Statement

Enriching the lives of those we serve with compassion, respect, excellence and integrity.

Description

The philosophy at Brookdale Hospice is that life is much more than physical health; it also includes the health of the human spirit. When physical health begins to fail, the nurturing of the spirit becomes critical for maintaining the dignity of the individual.

Volunteers are an important part of our hospice team, filling roles that include direct contact with patients and clerical support. Medicare requires the utilization of volunteers alongside paid clinical and administrative staff. Hospice volunteers describe their work as gratifying, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally meaningful. We value our volunteers greatly.
