Las Angelitas del Pueblo is the volunteer organization that gives free tours of the Los Angeles Pueblo and Olvera Street. The docent training class is on the following four Saturdays from 9:30 am to 12:20 pm: There will also be an optional fifth class on a weekday in May in which we will take a behind-the-scenes tour visiting areas in the Pueblo not generally available to the general public. Classes are held in the Tour Office next to the historic Fire House next to the Plaza across from Union Station. Come learn about Los Angeles history from the Tongva Native Americans, the founding of the city by the Spanish, the transfer to Mexico and then to the United States. You will also learn about how to give tours both to school groups and to walk-in visitors. Once you have completed the training and have been certified, you will be able to give tours of the Pueblo and Olvera Street.

About Las Angelitas del Pueblo

Location:

132 Paseo del la Plaza, Los Angeles, CA 90012, US

Mission Statement

Providing free walking tours of El Pueblo de Los Angeles, considered the birthplace of Los Angeles, to illuminate the history behind the city's founding and evolution.

Description

Las Angelitas del Pueblo, which has been giving free walking tours of the birthplace of Los Angeles for more than 50 years, is accepting applications for its five-week training course.

Docent trainees learn the fascinating history behind El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument, which includes Olvera Street, the city's oldest home and church, its first graveyard and fire station, and eight free museums that celebrate the rich diversity of the city.

Graduates go on to provide free tours to the monument's visitors, ranging from third graders to tourists from all over the world.

Trainees will meet every other Saturday morning, beginning March 16 and running through April 27, at the nonprofit's office at 132 Paseo de la Plaza near Olvera Street.

Docents receive free parking and access to a range of perks, including a newsletter, history-related field trips, historical presentations and periodic social gatherings.
