The Hampton District YMCAs (Hampton YMCA, YMCA Health & Wellness Center, and Ft Monroe YMCA) is looking for volunteers to serve on its Board of Managers. A YMCA Family Center Board of Managers is an opportunity to serve your community through YMCA programs and services. As a Branch Board member, you will be asked to advocate for your Y at tables where the Y is not present; raise funds and friends; and work alongside community leaders to help the Y fill gaps in your community.
Attendance:The expectation is all Branch Board members will attend monthly Board meetings and be engaged in at least one committee or task force.
Advocacy - Provides positive support of the organization to the general public; speaks publicly of the value of the organization.
Education - Takes the initiative to become knowledgeable about the YMCA, programs and policies of the organization.
Communication - Maintains open communication with staff and other BranchBoard members.
Advisory (Board Development)- Does not set policy but recommends actions or policies to the governing board and/or staff.
Research - Conducts necessary research or study to support input to the board; use such research to support personal committee and task force service.
Finance (Philanthropy)- Support the full achievement of the YMCA mission through personal contributions and securing adequate funds for community inclusion in programming.
Time Commitment:Varies, but generally is 2 hours a month. Personal Attributes:

An interest in the Mission, programs and goals of the YMCA.
High standing among the men and women of their business of profession.

The willingness to state one’s convictions - and equally the willingness to accept the majority decisions when in conflict with one’s own stand.
Deal openly and directly with other board members.

The Y image is enhanced.
The Annual Campaign grows annually in funds and friends raised.
