About the project: Promise Neighborhood is a community led organization in southeast Saint Cloud. We work with parents and community members to identify community problems, develop community led solutions and make evaluations and adjustments. They also constitute a majority of our board and committees, and manage all of our programs. 900 youth attend the two neighborhood elementary schools with 90% living in poverty and 80% being students of color. There is limited access to free, quality academic support in the neighborhood. A Literacy Leader will make a difference in our community by increasing capacity to serve enhanced content, create concrete goals, grow partnerships, secure additional resources and help us attract trained, qualified, and culturally competent volunteers. Our inside-out, community led model is unique because it includes, empowers and values members of the target community. The Literacy Leader will have opportunities for professional development, workshops and trainings, and access to leaders, decision makers and teaching professionals along with new social capital.

Main duties: The Literacy Leader will increase Promise Neighborhood’s ability to deliver quality after school and summer programming. They will improve program content and create achievable goals that consider community needs, partners, volunteers and community capacity. The Literacy Leader will strengthen our partner network that provides resources, volunteers, expertise and strategies. They will do this by either developing or joining an existing task force to align community efforts in promoting literacy. The Literacy Leader will enhance our volunteer database and training curriculum through research-based improvements and community input.
