The 1935 (Old) Cactus Garden was developed under Kate Sessions for the 1935 California Pacific International Exposition. This garden contains some of the largest cactus and succulent specimens in all of Balboa Park and has developed to include the exotic Australian Protea and African plants.

Recently, the Balboa Park Conservancy has rejuvenated this garden with the addition of desert flora originating from Africa, Australia, Europe, to further beautify the Cactus Garden. Now, we need your help by watering and caring for these succulents and plants.

As a garden steward, you can choose when you are available to water these succulents from either Monday to Friday. Watering takes about 30 - 45 minutes and we will work with your schedule!
