United Community is seeking a volunteer to support our main office front desk. The front desk is responsible for handling incoming calls, greeting clients, and managing their movement through the appropriate process, greeting visitors/volunteers/donors, and maintaining the reception area.

Hours: MWF 3 - 5 pm & TR 3 - 7:30 pm

Duration

16-24 hours a week, flexible start date

Must be able to work nights until 7:30pm twice a week

Position

Reporting directly Front Desk Administrative Associate, the intern will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Professionally administer all incoming calls, identify needs of caller, and ensure phone calls are redirected accordingly. Provide callers with information such as agency address, directions, phone/fax numbers, website, and other related information. Take and retrieve messages for staff.
  • Greet all incoming individuals in a professional, friendly, hospitable manner.
  • Recognize behavioral problems or unpleasant situations before they develop into incidents and alert supervisor who will then take appropriate action.
  • Maintain reception area and waiting room, including picking up toys and papers throughout the day. Ensure United Community materials (flyers, brochures, etc.) are available.
  • Be aware when waiting room has reached maximum capacity and inform supervisor.
  • Assist other administrative staff with extra duties, i.e. sorting mail, typing, stuffing envelopes, filing, etc.
  • All other duties as required for the safe and efficient operation of United Community

We are looking for an Intern who meets the following criteria:

  • Strong academic record, high school diploma preferred
  • Strong work ethic
  • Receptionist or customer service experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to take direction and flexibility with changes to daily job duties
  • Positive, helpful, can-do attitude and a professional appearance
  • Self-motivated, willing to help team with projects
  • Understanding of and respect for cultural and social diversity
  • Organized, accurate, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Interest in gaining exposure to and experience in non-profit organizations and programs.
