Use your instructional video skills and knowledge to improve the health and well-being of seniors and disabled individuals who want to live at home.
"Cooking is Caring" will be a series of training videos for in-home care-givers & clients. It is a joint project of three non-for-profit organizations, JEVS Care At Home, Kitchen Cred, and YouthBuild Philly Charter School.
Purpose: Use Kitchen Cred's proven curriculum and experienced culinary professionals to create a series of brief, engaging, and fun videos that will help JEVS Care At Home in-home care givers improve the nutrition of senior and disabled clients.
Overview:
o Proper diet and a healthy life go hand in hand, especially for older adults over the age of 65. According to reports by World Health Organization (WHO), a majority of the diseases that older people suffer are as a result of lack of proper diet. Micronutrients deficiency is shared among the elderly due to factors such as reduced food intake and lack of variety in their diet.
o More than 1 in 3 seniors in the care of others is at risk for under- or mal-nutrition (Mayo Clinic/American Dietetic Association). Malnutrition is the lack of proper nutrition, not necessarily a lack of food.
o The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) published data showing malnutrition in U.S. hospitalized patients is associated with a more than 50 percent higher rate of readmission within 30 days, compared to patient stays not identified with malnutrition.

To increase its impact, Kitchen Cred partners with community groups, chefs, educators, corporations, and other nonprofit agencies.
