THIS OPPORTUNITY IS 40 HOURS PER WEEK OF FEDERAL VOLUNTEER SERVICE AND PAID A MONTHLY STIPEND OF $1,796.94. The City of Renton (near Seattle, Washington), along with several affiliated organizations, is seeking AmeriCorps VISTA members to build capacity and fight poverty in one of the fastest growing cities in Washington State. APPLY NOW to a be an AmeriCorps VISTA Member at the Renton School District, Neighborhood House, or the Renton Communities in Schools. Applications will be accepted until July 31, 2019 and the positions will begin September 3, 2019.

AmeriCorps provides opportunities for 75,000 Americans each year to serve their communities by building the capacity of organizations which combat poverty, empower the communities they serve, and create sustainable solutions that change lives in 50,000 locations across all the 50 United States. There are over one million AmeriCorps alumni who accepted the opportunity to serve in non-profit organizations, faith-based groups, schools, and local government.

BENEFITS of AmeriCorps VISTA service include: Living allowance ($1,796.94 per month); Personal and sick time leave; Relocation assistance; Healthcare benefits; Childcare benefits; End-of-service benefits, including the option of an education award; and Post-service federal benefits.

WHO is eligible for AmeriCorps VISTA service?

  • Be 18 years or older (no upper age limit)
  • Pass a national service criminal history check
  • Hold one of the following citizenship or legal residency statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card status), and persons legally residing within a state. Examples of persons legally residing within a state may include those holding the following classifications: refugee, asylee, temporary protected status throughout VISTA service, and holding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status.

Description

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a unique federal program dedicated to ending poverty through national service to build the capacity of organizations serving low income communities. VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a federal anti-poverty program administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service. VISTA provides full-time volunteers (VISTAs) to support projects at nonprofit, grassroots organizations, and local government agencies that operate programs to help alleviate poverty in the United States.
