Consider becoming an advocate with the YWCA
and helping victims become survivors!
The YWCA is the largest Rape Crisis Center in the State of Illinois. We provide crucial services to survivors of sexual assault and their non-offending significant others. We provide 24 Hour Medical and Legal Advocacy and Run the Chicago Rape Crisis Hotline. We cannot do this work without dedicated volunteers being on the frontline. Medical/Legal Advocates
Medical/Legal Advocate Volunteers provide in person, 24-hour response and emotional support to survivors of sexual violence, and non-offending significant others. The 24-hour response is conducted at select hospitals and police districts, and courthouses in the communities we serve.
Volunteer Commitment is 1 year, 2-12 Hour Shifts a month
Training & Time commitment:
All volunteers required to complete a 40+ Hour Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training that explores the emotional, medical, and legal aspects of sexual assault. The training also addresses the institutional impact of sexual violence in our culture and communities.
We require our volunteers to commit to a minimum of one year of service.
Trainings are offered throughout the year at multiple locations.
Medical/Legal advocate:
Volunteers provide rape crisis intervention.
- In-person at all DuPage County hospitals.
- In-person at all DuPage County Police Departments.
Advocates have flexible scheduling and are only required to volunteer 24 hours out of the month.
