The American Red Cross needs your help with a *big* event happening at the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse!

The Western & Central NY Region will operate a State Fair Parking Lot again this year from Wednesday, August 21st through Monday, September 2 nd(September 2nd is Labor Day). All proceeds go directly to the American Red Cross.

Everyone who participates receives a complimentary ticket to the Fair on the day of your shift - and free parking for the day - for each shift they volunteer!

We need volunteers to serve as Traffic Supervisor:

Traffic Supervisor:

  • Manage pedestrian traffic from the Red Cross parking lot across State Fair Boulevard using existing traffic control devices and under the direction of professional traffic control personnel
  • Ensure that precautions are taken to provide a safe walking environment at all times
  • Help remove/place traffic cones and ropes to Open/Close the lot as directed by the Shift Captain
  • May help identify vehicles that are granted access to the lot when it is closed to the general public
    • Lot volunteers, Crucible Employees, Vendors, etc. are granted access for parking
  • Must be able to stand/walk for the 5 to 5-½ hour shift duration while carrying a radio and using flag

Note: We also need volunteers to help set up before the Fair and tear down after the Fair.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • You can choose to work any of three shifts available each day of the Fair: Morning Shift (7:00 am – 12:30 pm); Afternoon Shift (12:00 pm – 5:30 pm); or Evening Shift (5:00 pm – 10:00 pm).
  • All volunteers for this event must be 16 years of age or older due to safety concerns, and all shifts are worked rain or shine. Any volunteer below the age of 18 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
