About Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra

Location:

5030 Broadway, Suite 672, New York, NY 10040, US

Mission Statement

Empowering the uptown musician community to engage the people of Washington Heights and neighboring communities through exemplary performances and innovative educational programming.

Description

The Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra (WHCO) is a musician-led collective on a mission to engage and empower the people of Washington Heights and neighboring communities through exemplary performances and innovative educational programming.

With our "Made in Washington Heights" ethos, our local community is the heartbeat of everything we do. In the past eight years WHCO has produced over 73 outstanding public concerts - classical music, jazz, chamber music, and orchestra concerts - all free or at low cost to our community. As a collective of outstanding, committed musicians who make uptown our home, we aim to create unique experiences that celebrate the community and highlight its many amazing voices. WHCO sets the standard for fresh and exciting programming as old and new music are presented in meaningful and exciting dialogue; concerts feature living composers - often NYC and uptown residents - alongside major traditional works.

Among other outlets, WHCO has been listed in the NY Times’ "Today," TimeOut NY's "Critics Pick," WQXR Radio, and Gothamist's "Best Things to Do in NYC this Weekend." We continually seek community input, asking how WHCO can realize our mission of service and foster connections with local businesses, government, schools, and community organizations.
