VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) was founded in 1965 as a national service program to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts on building the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.

The BHA Wellness Connect Program, under the auspices of its Center for Community Engagement and Civil Rights (CCECR), has been awarded one full-time VISTA Member for 2019-2020. The Wellness Connect program has effectively utilized language access as a means to connect public housing families who are Limited English speakers to health/nutrition resources and benefits programs. As a BHA Wellness Connect-VISTA Member, you will work closely with the Center’s Language Access Team to build the Program’s capacity in recruitment, training, and deployment of volunteers.

VISTA Members serve in a one year, full time position (08/19/2019 through 08/17/2020). Service benefits include living allowance from the Corporation for National & Community Service of $20,640.75, choice of education award or end of service stipend, and health coverage ( http://www.vistacampus.gov/healthcare). BHA will provide on-site training and supervision, and MBTA Monthly LinkPass.
