APPRISE Medicare Counselor: Are you retired? Would you like to make a difference? We are looking for a few good counselors. APPRISE is the State of PA's State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP).
We are publicly funded through the Mayor's Commission on Aging.
When people become eligible for Medicare, they face a barrage of choices and ads trying to get them to sign up for programs. We help them sort through the choices and help them pick the one that's best for them. We give them unbiased information, since we are not selling insurance.
As a counselor, you would be given extensive training and mentorship. If you have a background in health care, insurance, social work, or counseling, you may be right for this program.
We do counseling on the phone and in person in the office. Counselors usually do a 3-4 hour shift, once or twice a week.
People who have received personalized counseling give us very positive feedback.
If this sounds like something that would interest you, please call me at 215-686-8466.
Joan Adler, APPRISE Coordinator
