Care Farming (also known as Social Farms/Gardens or Green Care) is common practice through-out European countries, especially in Norway and Sweden. Simple Sparrow is a care farm located outside Austin, TX that integrates therapeutic methods with practical farming techniques. We believe people need time and space to practice compassionate care in order to give compassion and care for nature, self, and others.
We are looking for a summer intern who is passionate about gardens, animals, and people. Some college or a college degree in therapy, psychology, or theology is required. Trauma-informed training is not required, but highly encouraged.

Mission Statement
Simple Sparrow is a trauma-informed(TBRI) care farm that integrates therapeutic methods with practical farming techniques in order for people to learn and practice compassionate care of nature, self, and others. We collaborate with individual therapists, educators, schools, businesses, churches, and other non-profits to provide therapeutic interactions with animals and gardens, teach farm education, and allow supervised use of our farm so that all ages, backgrounds, and abilities may learn, grow, and heal in caring compassionate community.
Description
Our History:
Simple Sparrow Farm started as a small hobby farm in 2013 for founder/president, Jamie Tanner, and her family. They opened their gates to therapist friends to use for trauma/sensory integration therapies. Integrative therapies worked! Word spread and more therapists and families requested use of the farm. Then schools and nursing homes asked about visiting or bringing animals for therapeutic interactions to their locations. Jamie saw need in the community to connect people back to nature through therapeutic and educational experiences with farm nature. So, Simple Sparrow Farm redefined itself as "care farm" and became a nonprofit 501c3 in 2017.
Programs:
Our programs aim to equip and empower people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities through mindful practice caring for animals and gardens. When people learn to better care for nature, they learn to better care for themselves and others. We have several programs to engage and connect our community both on and off the farm.
