Speak Spanish? Good with technology?

Caminando Juntos, a Hispanic Ministry Center in Sioux Falls, is seeking patient, friendly, and compassionate individuals willing to tutor adult learners on basic computer skills, programs and functions. Tutors may also help teach basic Office programs, such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, or teach individuals how to use email and other online websites.

Volunteers would set their own schedules and arrange tutoring times and locations with his/her assigned student. They will also receive ongoing training and support, as well as a curriculum to follow to make their job easy and rewarding. Tutors should be open to working with diverse cultures and have strong computer skills; teaching experience is not required. Knowledge of Spanish is helpful. 1:1 computer classes will begin July of 2019 and will run indefinitely.

Please contact the Education Coordinator, April Ross, for more information or to request a volunteer application at #274-3735.

Mission Statement

Caminando Juntos, sponsored by the Aberdeen Presentation Sisters, is a ministry with the Latino population in the Sioux Falls, South Dakota area. Inspired by the zeal of our foundress, Nano Nagle, and her deep love for those made poor, Caminando Juntos responds to the Gospel mandate to "welcome the stranger." Our primary purpose is to help create a welcoming presence and respond to the needs of newer Latino immigrants as they seek to integrate into a new culture and make a home among us.

Description

Caminando Juntos assists newly-arrived Latino immigrants with basic necessities (food, clothing, furniture, housing, employment), orientates them on community resources and social services, assists in completing applications (healthcare, social services, employment), provides comprehensive immigration legal services, offers adult education classes and opportunities (English, computers, special interest topics), and advocates with community partners on issues that impact immigrants and refugees.
