Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital is looking for volunteers to provide pet therapy services on a recurring basis for adults diagnosed with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities. When we had pet therapy in the past, we typically had 2-8 patients in groups supervised by an activity therapist or other staff member. Pet therapy was received very positively and was a comfort for patients missing their pets back at home and created a more normalized environment for them. We are a friendly bunch and are open to all ideas, animals, and experiences that could provide new therapeutic opportunities and experiences for our patients.

Description
The Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital was established in 1859 and provides recovery-based, inpatient mental health services to adults diagnosed with mental illness and development disabilities. Some of our services include music therapy, recreation therapy, occupational therapy, psychological services, and vocational services, as well as a variety of yearly events such as participation in Kalamazoo's Art Hop every October and Summerfest, a gathering of community, patients, and staff, at the end of July. Our goal is to provide a variety of opportunities and experiences for the patients to promote quality of life and successful integration back into the community.
