ORGANIZATION: LEARNSERVE INTERNATIONAL

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

LearnServe International works to teach students how to bring sustainable change to their communities through social entrepreneurship & innovation. Students design and launch their own social "ventures" -- innovative action projects that benefit their schools and communities -- or work alongside established entrepreneurs. Throughout the process, students are in the driver’s seat: shaping ideas, defining strategy, and making the venture happen.

Why do we focus on social entrepreneurship & innovation?

We believe in the power of young people to create change. They have the energy, creativity, and passion to identify injustice and drive positive social change. Through social entrepreneurship we spark students’ passion to make a difference, and offer the tools to make an impact.

We believe that leading change has the power to transform young people. We hope that each student-led venture launches, offering tangible benefits to real communities. Regardless of outcome, the following take root: the self-perception of being problem-solvers, the ability to break down complex problems into achievable goals, and the experience of translating an idea into action. In the process, students learn critical personal and professional skills which they, in turn, carry into college and their careers.

Innovation Corps Role Description

The LearnServe Innovation Corps enlists current and aspiring social entrepreneurs to transform the lives of young people through social entrepreneurial education. Corps Members equip middle and high school students from diverse backgrounds in DC, Maryland, and Virginia with the entrepreneurial vision, tenacity, confidence, and leadership skills needed to tackle social challenges at home and abroad.

Corps Members are trained in the LearnServe Method, paired together or with a teacher at the base institution, and deliver content during the school day and feedback to students. Our in-school curriculum Seeding Social Innovation brings social entrepreneurship into the school day, reaching middle and high school students in public, independent, and charter schools across the Washington, DC area.
