Would you like to get involved with an excellent organization that has been around for over 20 years and have fun while doing it?

If you answered, "yes", this is the opportunity for you!

Each year Leja Bulela holds an annual conference in a different city and this year it will be in St. Louis, MO! Our Deputy Executive Director is a SLU alum so we will host our event at Saint Louis University.

We are looking for volunteers that have a passion for philanthropy, community involvement and have great customer service skills.

Here are more details on the assignments:

  1. Friday PM - this is the day that our conference kicks off. We will need volunteers to work registration at Carlo Auditorium in Tegeler Hall(3550 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63103; this is where Friday's activities will take place). Your shift would run from 5pm - 10pm and you can enjoy the food and peek in on the performances.
  2. Saturday AM - this is our biggest conference day. This will also be held at Carlo Auditorium in Tegeler Hall. We will need volunteers for registration during the day time and that would be any time from 9am until 4pm (we can break down your shift). Lunch will be provided if you're working during lunch hour. We also need volunteers to assist with the children's programming; those shifts are 9am to 12pm and 12pm to 4pm.
  3. Saturday PM - We will be hosting our fabulous fundraising gala at Il Monastero Banquet Centre (3050 Olive St, St. Louis, MO 63103). We need volunteers to assist with set up (event decor), registration at the door, assisting with silent auction/raffles, assisting the caterer, and clean up/tear down. This shift will go from 5pm until 11:45pm (a meal will be provided and you can breakdown shifts)

STUDENTS: If you need credits for internships or volunteer hours, we can work with you to provide that.

About LEJA BULELA INC

Location:

PO BOX 893514, TEMECULA, CA 92589, US

Mission Statement

Leja Bulela exists to provide financial and social support to people in the Kasai-Oriental Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. We do this by: 1) advocating for the respect of human and civil rights 2) teaching the American public about the history and culture of the Luba people 3) fundraising for our initiatives in Tshibombo Tshimuangi 4) supporting other organizations working in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Description

Leja Bulela was founded in 1993 as a reaction to the expulsion of an estimated 500,000 Kasai natives from the Katanga Province of the Democratic Repulic of Congo in the early 90s. This forced migration disrupted families and placed a tremendous burden on the provinces inheriting the displaced.

Without adequate healthcare facilities, proper nutrition, and social services, many of the displaced died in transit or upon arrival in Kasai. As such, Leja Bulela's primary focus has been the to support internally displaced persons (refoulés) living in Tshibombo Tshimuangi and the residents of Kasai-Oriental Province with initiatives that promote adequate healthcare, educational opportunities, agricultural opportunities, and a chance at a brighter future.

Leja Bulela is comprised of individuals in the Congolese Disapora living in the United States and Canada. We hold an annual meeting every summer to bring together people from all different backgrounds who are committed to making the world a better place. Everyone is welcome, and everyone is invited!
