Do you enjoy spending time with others? Do you like to meet new people? Hospice of the Miami Valley is seeking friendly volunteers who can provide caregiver relief for the caregiver of a hospice patient.

Caregiver relief (sometimes called respite) volunteers are people who come into the home of a hospice patient to allow the caregiver to leave for a few hours on a temporary/semi-regular basis. This gives the caregiver a chance to take a break to run errands, go to appointments, or take personal time.

Caregiver relief volunteers provide non-medical companionship and supervision for patients in case something happens while the caregiver is away. Volunteers can enjoy a number of activities with a patient, including reading books, watching television, listening to music, playing board games, or simply having a conversation.

Volunteers are an important part of the Hospice team. Respite volunteers for HOMV offer support, companionship, and practical, caring help to patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness. The help and support that our volunteers give is returned to them in countless ways.

This position offers flexibility in time commitment and schedule, but consistent availability to visit is ideal. Our Volunteer Coordinator will provide specialized training and will walk with you every step of the way. You will be supported in your role by a competent and caring group of nurses, aides, social workers, chaplains, and fellow volunteers. All supplies will be provided by Hospice.

Volunteers will report to our office in Springfield. Volunteers are needed in communities within Clark, Montgomery, Champaign, Greene and Madison.

If you'd like to provide a much-needed break to caregivers in need, please call Volunteer Coordinator Kari Mascar at 937-481-1459 or email mascark@homv.org.
