You have a tremendous opportunity to help girls understand the true inner power they possess; to serve as the critical 'fuel’ that propels them forward in life. As a volunteer coach for Girls on the Run, you can unleash the strength, bravery, and limitless potential of girls in Sonoma County.

Girls on the Run coaches are as unique as the girls they serve. Just like the girls, many are not runners. They are people just like YOU who take great pride and care in role modelling character, connectedness, and inner strength.

Social-emotional learning is the cornerstone of our research-based lessons, designed specifically for the challenges that [3rd-5th OR 6th-8th] grade girls face. With your help, we can support girls in:

· Standing up for themselves and others

· Being a stand-byer instead of a bystander

· Practicing empathy, inclusion and acceptance

Girls on the Run coaches are truly a reflection of the girls we serve in Sonoma County. By being themselves, they prove that one person can really make a difference. And they have a lot of fun too!

We need coaches at various locations for our next season. Girls on the Run is a 10-week program that meets twice a week for 90 minutes beginning the week of 7 February (24 January for year-round schools).

There are girls waiting to participate in the Girls on the Run program, and they need you! We need you! Learn more about volunteer coaching opportunities to coach with Girls on the Run at gotrsonomacounty.org/coach.

Mission Statement

We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Description

Over a period of 10 weeks, girls in the 3rd through 5th grade participate in an after-school program like no other. Designed to allow every girl to recognize her inner strength, the Girls on the Run curriculum inspires girls to define their lives on their own terms. Throughout the season, the girls make new friends, build their confidence and celebrate all that makes them unique.

The Girls on the Run lessons encourage positive emotional, social, mental and physical development. Participants explore and discuss their own beliefs around experiences and challenges girls face at this age. They also develop important strategies and skills to help them navigate life experiences. We start with helping the girls get a better understanding of who they are and what’s important to them. Then, we look at the importance of team work and healthy relationships. And, finally, the girls explore how they can positively connect with and shape the world.
