Help an elementary age child (kindergarten-2nd grade) increase reading skills by reading with them twice a week. Your efforts will provide more than literacy skills for a child. It will foster positive adult-child interactions, trust, self-esteem, and social skills. Pioneer Special School is an alternative public school in Portland Public Schools. It serves students kindergarten through 12th grade with special needs who are unable to be successful in a less restrictive placement. Many students have not yet developed the literacy skills compared to their same aged peers. They may be struggling with behavioral challenges, mental health, learning disabilities, homelessness, trauma or abuse. Regardless of whatever their situation may be, all children deserve to learn how to read. With your help we will fulfill this goal!
