Hungry kids can't learn.

Can you help 1.5 hours/week to ensure that youth living in public housing will continue to have access to healthy, balanced meals over the school break?

From June 4-July 26 on Tuesday-Friday each week, Hawaii Literacy's Family Literacy Library program will provide free meals to youth. Each day after the lunch service, the kids are encouraged to hang out and do fun summer learning and literacy activities at the Library.

Volunteers help by
- setting up the mats, tables, utensils and plates
- serving meals
- welcoming the kids and encouraging them to eat
- breaking down the site after

Lunch is provided for volunteers

Description

Hawaii Literacy was founded in 1971 to tutor adults in basic reading and writing skills and hep them achieve their goals for a better life. Hawaii Literacy provides the following services:

  • Adult Literacy 1-1 Tutoring;
  • two Family Libraries in Mayor Wright and Kuhio Park;
  • the Bookmobile program serving 13 high need sites on the Wai'anae Coast; and
  • English Language Learner classes at three locations.
In total our programs serve nearly 3,000 adults and children each year.

  • available for at least 4 of the 8 shifts on Tuesdays. If you are available for all 8 shifts, that would be great!
