Want to make a difference in someone's life through teaching?

Caminando Juntos, a Hispanic Ministry Center in Sioux Falls, is seeking patient, friendly, and compassionate individuals willing to tutor English Language Learners 1:1 or to help adults prepare for the citizenship test in 2021. Tutors should be open to working with diverse cultures and would preferably have some teaching and/or tutoring experience, although teaching experience is not required. Knowledge of Spanish is helpful. 1:1 English and citizenship classes will begin in Jan of 2021 and run indefinitely. A volunteer orientation and screening session is required.

Please contact ELL Coordinator, April Ross, for more information or to request a volunteer application at #274-3735.

Mission Statement

Caminando Juntos, sponsored by the Aberdeen Presentation Sisters, is a ministry with the Latino population in the Sioux Falls, South Dakota area. Inspired by the zeal of our foundress, Nano Nagle, and her deep love for those made poor, Caminando Juntos responds to the Gospel mandate to "welcome the stranger." Our primary purpose is to help create a welcoming presence and respond to the needs of newer Latino immigrants as they seek to integrate into a new culture and make a home among us.

Caminando Juntos assists newly-arrived Latino immigrants with basic necessities (food, clothing, furniture, housing, employment), orientates them on community resources and social services, assists in completing applications (healthcare, social services, employment), provides comprehensive immigration legal services, offers adult education classes and opportunities (English, computers, special interest topics), and advocates with community partners on issues that impact immigrants and refugees.
