ORGANIZATION: Conejo Recreation & Park District - Therapeutic Unit

Peer mentors will be paired or grouped with fellow high school students who have developmental disabilities throughout their time at camp. Peer mentors will aid in the development of social skills through fun and recreational programs. This camp will provide mentors with a professional, caring, and productive work environment. Mentors will also have to be comfortable assisting mentees in community settings. Interested individuals will be chosen after interview process.

Description

The Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Unit provides year-round recreation, sport and leisure programs for children, teens, and adults who have difficulty participating in recreation due to the presence of a disability. Participants of Therapeutic Recreation programs include individuals with cognitive, neurological, physical, or emotional disabilities, and/or sensory impairments. A formal disability diagnosis is not required for participation.
