TO BE ELIGIBLE: Must live or work in Wallingford or a neighboring town.

You have a show idea. What comes next?

Getting into a community TV studio is not the same everywhere. Some locations require that you have a crew of up to four people, others require 2 to 6 weeks of training so that you can handle all aspects of production, and others limit support to a simple format.

At WPAA-TV there are a few production styles to choose from 1) independent producers doing it all yourself, or 2) a baseline of support from staff. All methods require collaboration and onboarding. Our goal is to support your goals as optimally as possible within our limited resources.

The basic steps:
Community media must be noncommercial and copyright-compliant. Please understand that resources are shared and scheduled on 1st come, 1st serve basis by sending an inquiry to reserve@wpaa.tv

  • Make a call or send an email to set up an appointment to review your ideas, show styles, take a tour, and affirm your eligibility.
  • Work out a Program Plan with staff. A plan will document the resources your idea will need to be produced as TV. It will identify a timeline and things like your prospective show's name, style, and duration.
  • Set up a time to observe a show currently in production. Recommendation: Watch a locally produced show with a similar style on TV or online. You can find links to regularly produced programs here: https://wpaa.tv/watch/studiow/ You will be asked if you are familiar with our programming as a starting point of the plan.
  • Register contact information for ongoing communication. Provide confirmation of eligibility. Connect with the community on social media.
  • Develop/select your show assets:
    1. Music (Create your own or select from a royalty-free audio collection such as YouTube Library. )
    2. Create an introduction to your show: 8-30 seconds of graphics or video.
    3. Produce a format to close the show with credits, produced at wpaa-tv and a disclaimer
    4. Create other assets: Talk shows typically identify hosts, guests, and show names with graphics.
    5. Based on the show-style set-up a plan for the roll-in of graphics, audio, or video
    6. Design your set. Choose a Black, Gray, or Green curtain. If greenscreen is selected what images will be used? Choose a table, chairs, and accessories.
    7. Schedule a try-out session. During this time it is recommended that you do a 1 to 5-minute description of your show. This can be an asset for your YouTube Channel. The channel can use a wpaa.tv email or be your personal account that you manage.
