Street Team: Neighborhood Pet Outreach

ORGANIZATION: Pet Resource Center of Kansas City

Do you want to make a difference in the lives of Kansas City pets? Have a direct impact as part of the SNKC Street Team!

It's easy to tell someone that SNKC provides low-cost pet wellness and resources, but it's far more meaningful to show them. That's what you'll do as a member of the Street Team. Neighborhood Pet Outreach takes our services one step further -- rather than waiting for folks to come in to our clinic to learn about how we can help them, we connect with them in their neighborhoods and at their homes.

We have partnered with KC Animal Control to determine the areas with families most in need of help. Street Team members go out in a group led by SNKC staff to visit neighborhoods with a high percentage of animal control calls related to lack of pet resources. We walk the neighborhood, posting flyers with basic pet care tips and information about our services, and handing out supplies like food, treats, tie-outs and bowls to people we meet along the way.Our staff will follow up with families in need of additional help based on your notes.

Families struggling to provide shelter, food, or who have pets that escape the yard frequently benefit much more from us sharing information and resources than incurring a citation. We want to support families that love their pets, and keep that animal control call from happening in the first place.

Providing in-person support and representing SNKC in a community most in need of pet resources is by far the most powerful way to ensure that loved pets are able to stay in their homes with their families.
