ORGANIZATION: BPE (Boston Plan for Excellence)

DPC Member

Dudley Promise Corps (DPC) is a full-time, one-year neighborhood-based AmeriCorps service program serving BPE’s Dearborn STEM Academy. DPC leverages the power of national service to support all students in Dudley to stay on track to attend college and serve as responsible citizens in their community, while simultaneously developing corps members as engaged civic leaders committed to social justice.

Visit dudleypromisecorps.org/apply access the online application. Admissions decisions will be made on a rolling basis while space is available in the program. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply now !

To achieve this, DPC is driven by ambitious goals in five focus areas. DPC members share specific responsibilities in each area, both individually and as a team, as outlined below:

  • Academic Support -You’ll accelerate the academic growth and achievement of our students by providing targeted academic support in literacy and/or math to small groups and individual students.
  • Social Emotional Support -You’ll enhance the school’s capacity to promote a safe and supportive school climate by developing positive and productive relationships with individual students. Since they are embedded in the school, corps members are able to spend non-academic time each day getting to know students in a range of settings and ensuring that each student is known and appreciated.
  • School Culture -You’ll collaborate with school staff to build whole-school community and a culture that promotes high levels of student engagement and investment. You’ll support opportunities to expand students’ learning and growth by leading, contributing, and/or developing enrichment programs, school-wide initiatives, and clubs.
  • Community Engagement -As a neighborhood based corps, you’ll learn about the Dudley community history, assets, and aspirations, and engage with community partners through multi-faceted experiences outside of schools. DPC believes that this connection will give corps members an understanding that allows them to better serve students.
  • Member Training and Support - You’ll have access to training and professional development opportunities to not only support you in performing your responsibilities in schools, but also to gain the knowledge, skills, and experiences that empower you to continue to work toward social justice and equity. Together, these learning opportunities are designed to help you remain engaged leaders in your communities long after the service year.

Mission Statement

Boston Plan for Excellence drives exceptional outcomes for all students by developing great teachers and great schools.

Description

The mission of BPE is to drive exceptional outcomes for all students by developing great teachers and great schools. For three decades, BPE (formerly the Boston Plan for Excellence) has devised solutions to the toughest challenges faced by Boston’s students and teachers by weaving together expertise in teacher training and school development. We believe ambitious teaching (which we define as instruction that consistently engages all students in rigorous content) requires not only effective teachers, but also systems that support great teaching and methods for continuous improvement. We have prepared over 600 teachers for Boston's public schools through the nationally recognized and replicated Boston Teacher Residency (BTR) program, and we have pioneered scalable, cutting edge data tools and whole school improvement strategies. We also created the Dudley Promise Corps (DPC) to leverage the power of national service to expand learning time, engage families, and provide extra support to students in the Dudley neighborhood.
