Volunteers are needed to assist with the Junior Giants baseball/softball program this summer. Volunteers serve as coaches, assistant coaches and team parents for the 8 week program. The season starts Saturday, June 1st. Junior Giants is a free, noncompetitive, coed baseball/softball program for under-served youth ages 5-18. Youth have a chance to learn the basics of baseball/softball during the summer while also discovering the importance of self-esteem and respect. Volunteers do not have to have prior experience. Staff will provide training and guidance for all volunteers. At the beginning of the season, staff conduct a Coach/Team Parent training in which they go over everything needed to be successful as volunteers. A detailed weekly lesson plan (including practice schedules) will be provided that coaches/team parents can follow the entire season. Junior Giants representatives will be out at the fields during practice time to assist the Coaches/Team Parents if needed. Time commitment is about 3-4 hours per week, one 90 minute practice during the week (5 pm-6:30 pm or 6:30 pm to 8 pm) and one 60 minute game on Saturday (sometime between 9 am and 12 noon). Practice time/day will be selected by the Coach/Team Parents at the training session. The season runs June 1 st to August 10 th.
