Do you have a background in coding or a tech-related field?
Do you want to support students explore the field of coding?
The Last Mile is the first full stack coding program inside US prisons. Its mission is to provide marketable skills that result in gainful employment and a core belief is that having a job is the key to successful re-entry and breaking the cycle of incarceration. The program provides computer coding training to prepare its students for release into today’s high-tech environment.
Students learn skills in web development with the objective of becoming full-stack JavaScript engineers. Technologies used include, but are not limited to, HTMS5, CSS3, JavaScript with Node.js, MongoDB, and several popular JavaScript libraries including React, Express, and Mongoose.
The Indiana Department of Correction is currently recruiting volunteers to mentor students for The Last Mile. Volunteers have a flexible schedule and typically spend a couple hours each week either assisting students in the classroom during the day or helping students grasp concepts during evening labs.
